This painting was inspired by a note my mother wrote herself and taped on the fridge.

Art imitates life, and memes do as well. This begs the question: Can a meme be art? Can art be a meme? Remaking the “Kermit sipping tea” meme in a variety of art styles, I say the answer is yes. This series allowed me to experiment with Procreate for iPad while exploring the dichotomy between fine art and meme culture.

In this piece, I superimposed increasing layers of waxed paper over the initial image to convey my experience watching the news over the course of 2017.

The fall of my senior year, I created this collage entirely out of mail I received from universities.
